Norseman TM  Magnum Super Premium Heavy Duty Drill Bits

A drill chart and a down-loadable PDF is provided below.

Made in the USA from High Speed Steel (HSS). These bits are made to drill through hardened stainless steel plate (30+ on the Rockwell "C" scale) so wood & acrylics are not an issue.  These drills are so sharp (point and outer cutting surfaces) that they will easily cut skin if not properly handled.  The flutes have a nitro carburized coating that inhibits heat & material build-up.  They are coated with an amber gold anti-friction surface treatment and are ground with a 135 degree split point tip.  These drills will easily outperform cobalt bits.

This is the best series of drills that I have ever used.  Don't confuse these bits with imported drill bits - that's like comparing a "Chevette" to a "Corvette".  They are not that much more expensive than 'regular' drill bits and with the proper care they should last a very long time before they require sharpening.  These bits are an excellent choice when used to drill Desert Ironwood.

I have received inquiries why we don't recommend 7mm bits for the slimline and other 7mm type kits.  It has been my experience that a 7mm hole is a little too tight for these kits and whatever glue you are using to secure the tube inside the blank can be minimal because the hole size and the brass tube are just about the same size.  I recommend using either the 'J' or a 9/32" bit for the 7mm kits.  We do stock 7mm bits for those who want them.

13.3mm Drill Bit
HSS (high speed steel) 13.3mm drill bit for the Berea El Grande series pens.  This bit can be used in place of the 33/64" drill for those that want a little larger hole in the top barrel.  This bit has a straight shank and will just fit into a 1/2" Jacobs chuck.   Price is $11.25. To order click here .

8.2mm Drill Bit **
This drill bit is especially useful for the upper barrel of the Olympia pen kit.  It drills a slightly larger hole than a standard 'O' bit thus allowing a better glue joint.

29 American made Norseman TM Magnum Super Premium heavy duty drill bits 1/16" to 1/2" by 64ths.  Comes complete with a either a weather tight, waterproof and just about indestructible drill case or in a standard metal drill index box.   Constructed of hi-moly tool steel, these premium drill bits are not to be confused or compared to the 'bargain' bits offered by different companies selling imported drill bits.  These bits are hardened to drill through materials with a hardness of over 30 on the Rockwell "C" scale and have nitro-carburized flutes.  The split point design gives accurate starting without the use of a center punch.  The 135 degree point takes a smaller chip along with the amber gold surface treatment results in less friction and heat.  The Norseman bits easily out perform cobalt bits when drilling like materials.

Customer Comments

Bill...just wanted to write and sing the praises for the Norsemen Drill bits you carry.  I had been using brad point bits from many different vendors and had various disasters with pen blanks and although not all problems were drill bit related I have had ZERO drill bit related issues since I bought the Norsemen STD set in the round storage Ultra-Dex and I've also a few metric sizes and plan to buy more.  Anyway...thanks for carrying them as they are the only brand of bit I intend to use.  I'll never use brad points again for pens.

Bill,

I just wanted to tell you I was very impressed with the Norseman Ultra-Dex I just received from you. These bits leave nice, long, even shavings, and cut much smoother than I remember my old off shore set did when new. I have also noticed easier entry while drilling pen blanks when compared to my old brad points (especially in burls). Even the case is better made. The stepped bit holder fell out of my old case every time I opened it! Thanks for a great product!

It was 113 here yesterday....

A friend and customer called the other day and in the course of our conversation he mentioned that he had a dog that was fourteen years old and was showing signs of age.  I asked him if he had ever read "The Dog's Prayer" and he had not heard of it.  As a courtesy to him and to others that have not read it I am posting it here.  Kleenex will be needed.....

A Dog's Prayer

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside... for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements... and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land... for you are my god... and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

Beth Norman Harris
